Donovan Coetzee, MICROMINE Africa’s Geobank Data Specialist, and Kayleigh Cooper, Micromine Training and Support Consultant, both visited Kudumane Manganese Resources (KMR) during March. Based at their Hotazel site, situated in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in the Northern Cape of South Africa.
The Northern Cape is the largest province in South Africa, and interestingly it is the most sparsely populated region. The region is most known for the diamond mines situated around Kimberley and almost 95 percent of South Africa’s diamonds have originated from the province.
The team worked closely with Neels Cockeran, Mineral Resource Manager for KMR operations. Donovan and Kayleigh’s work related to KMR’s Geobank and Micromine solutions currently being used on site. MICROMINE releases multiple updates for all our software. We focus on enhancing the software’s capabilities and implementing new features that benefit users, thus, we ran a refresher course to help Neels and his team better utilize the Geobank and Micromine solution.
Donovan went through every module currently being used by the KMR team what new features they include., he assisted in fine-tuning how they use their Geobank solution. The KMR team had training of importing data, as well as showing them how to build a custom report required to report on their grade.
Kayleigh created a customized training based on the request of Neels Cockeran. This included wireframing, block modelling and scheduling. Kayleigh helped the team to learn how to optimize drill patterns and how to build wireframes for each drill blast.
From the Johannesburg office, it is a 600km drive through some of the most beautiful scenery South Africa has to offer. Donovan and Kayleigh stayed on a game reserve, of which there are plenty of in this region. They were able to go on game drives every morning and evening and saw a host of animals including Kudu, Giraffe, Eland, meerkats and much more.
When used together, Geobank and Micromine become two of the most powerful tools in the mining software industry. No matter how you need to view, analyze, store, report, model or plan, Micromine and Geobank can handle it all.
